Kálvária Lookout Tower

Szekszárd

Above the city of Szekszárd, the lookout tower on Bartina Hill offers a magnificent panorama, the surrounding fields and the rows of vineyards rising up the hillsides are truly an eye-catching sight.

The Calvary Lookout is not only interesting for its beautiful view, but also for the composition of the Szőlő statue by István Kiss, which was erected in 1983. The statue is made up of the symbols of the city's coat of arms. The Calvary can also be found at this nice little excursion spot, and the three cross statues were made in the classicizing late Baroque style at the end of the 18th century. Unfortunately, the otherwise magnificent panorama is somewhat marred by the incongruous, gloomy sight of the otherwise useful radio towers. At the end of the pleasant walk, it is worth stopping by the Baroque-style monument Remete Chapel, where you can relax in the shade of the lime trees. Next to the chapel, you can see the statue of the Suffering Christ and nearby flows the cool, clean and healing Remete Spring. It is worth filling your water bottle so that the pleasant-tasting water will give you strength for the rest of the walk.
